John Eric Bartholomew was born in Morecambe, later changing his stage name to Eric Morecambe to become half of the great “Morecambe & Wise” act. Following his untimely death at the age of 58 in 1984, this statute of Eric, designed by Graham Ibbeson was unveiled by The Queen in 1999. The Wetherspoons pub nearby is called the “Eric Bartholomew” in honour of Eric.
